Food Prescription: Ezekiel 4:9 Sesame Bread
I thought it would be a good idea to highlight one food or beverage item I love, on an almost daily basis. I’m calling it “Food Prescription” because good, wholesome food products are far more beneficial and economical then any drug prescribed by doctors. You can look at nutritious food as a sort of preventive medicine. Eating crap only leads to nasty crap in your system. Eating well fires up your system, allowing you to run more effectively and keeps you healthy, and hopefully leading to fewer doctor visits and drug prescriptions in the future. It’s difficult to look at the future value of your being but once you see how long you will be on this planet, the more you’ll want to sustain a strong and healthy body. Also, when the craziness of the future does come around, the most healthy and dedicated people survive. I’m just preparing for that inevitable zombie apocalypse.
So today’s Food Prescription comes from the company Food for Life. The company sells “Certified Organic Grain” products such as bread, pasta, and tortillas.
“Food for Life products are made with filtered water and are kosher-certified. Behind each Food for Life product are countless hours of research where we’ve developed exclusive baking processes to ensure proper moisture levels, texture and maximum flavor without losing vital nutrients and important natural fiber. No conditioners, additives, artificial flavors, colors or preservatives are ever used.”
All of their products are titled Ezekiel 4:9 (bread, tortilla, etc.) because they use the bible verse to describe their product. The bible verse is as follows…
“Take also unto thee WHEAT and BARLEY, and BEANS, and LENTILS, and MILLET, and SPELT, and put them into one vessel, and make bread of it…” -Ez. 4:9
It was nice of Ezekiel to give the recipe right there for them to use because they have created some excellent breads. The bread I eat 5 days a week for lunch is Ezekiel 4:9 Organic Sprouted Whole Grain Sesame Bread. You can purchase this bread at Trader Joes or other health food markets (http://www.mothersmarket.com/) for around $5. So what makes this bread so great? First, it is of course all natural and contains no preservatives. The ingredients are…
- Organic Sprouted Wheat
- Filtered Water
- Organic Malted Barley
- Organic Sprouted Rye
- Organic Sprouted Barley
- Organic Sprouted Oats
- Organic Sprouted Millet
- Organic Sprouted Corn
- Organic Sprouted Brown Rice
- Fresh Yeast
- Organic Wheat Gluten
- Sea Salt
Very legit. Pretty much the ingredients that you would think are in bread in the first place. No high fructose corn syrup, no enriched flour. Just fresh ingredients. The “drawback” to no preservatives in the bread is it will get moldy very quickly if left out for a few days. The bread needs to be stored in the freezer if not eaten within a few days. But this is hardly a problem. What I do is pull my two pieces of bread out the night before and throw it in a plastic bag and put them in the refrigerator. In the morning, I throw my bread in my lunch box and toast it at work. If you don’t like your bread toasted, it still tastes fine because it will be completely defrosted and back to normal by the time lunch rolls around. Now lets check out the facts.
Serving Size: 1 Slice; Servings per Container: 20

So for a standard sandwich, you are only taking in 160 cals and 28g of carbs as well as taking in 6g of fiber and 8g of protein! A standard piece of wheat bread would probably be 100 cals per slice and 20 g of carbs and created with crap ingredients. Really, look at your bread. It most likely has high fructose corn syrup in it. Why does bread need corn syrup in it!?!?! It doesn’t!
The bread tastes delicious and I recommend to try it. If you don’t like it, you can complain to info@foodforlife.com and give me the loaf you bought.
